Facilities & Equipment
Find scanning equipment and facilities at the Center for Translational Imaging (CTI) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Check availability through the calendar links under each research area. For descriptions and costs, please click the individual technology or facility of interest or view all rates here. Note: External, non-academic rates are 1.5 times regular rates listed beneath items below. All sites have a $150 reservation fee for last-minute cancellations. View all CTI policies and sign up for training.
All manuscripts and grants presenting work supported by our facilities should include the following acknowledgement: "This work was supported by the Center for Translational Imaging at Northwestern University."

Siemens 1.5 T Aera
The Siemens 1.5T Area MRI scanner is equipped with integrated Tim 4G coil technology and DOT. Specifications include: 70 cm open bore design, XQ gradients (45 mT/m @ 200 T/m/s), 64 independent RF channels, Zero Helium boil-off technology.
Cost: $420 per hour
Siemens 1.5T Sola
The Siemens 1.5T Sola MRI scanner is equipped with integrated Tim 4G coil technology and BioMatrix Technology, which automatically adjusts to patient biovariability to overcome unwarranted variations in MRI examinations. Specifications include: 70 cm open bore design, XQ gradients (45 mT/m @ 200 T/m/s), 64 independent RF channels, Zero Helium boil-off technology.
Cost: $420 per hour
Siemens PowerMobile C-Arm Angiographic System
The Siemens PowerMobile C-Arm is fully equipped for any X-ray angiographic study. It is capable of fluoroscopic and digital subtraction angiographic studies.
Interventional angiography is a Northwestern University core facility resource operated by the
Department of Radiology. The facility provides expertise and access to equipment for interventional X-
ray guided imaging for translational pre-clinical studies (C-Arm Fluoroscopy system GE OEC One).
The GE OEC One all-in-one mobile C-Arm offers superb imaging capabilities, made more accessible for various procedures – from pain management to vascular. It brings images closer to the surgical field on the OEC One’s 27-inch display – mounted on an articulation arm with five ranges of motion. Adjustments to manage imaging needed on the system’s 10.1-inch TechView tablet can be made with a touchscreen OEC interface adjacent to the live imaging mirrored from the system’s image display.
Regulation: Northwestern University X-Ray Safety Training and radiation badge are required for facility access.
Cost: Supported - $250 per hour; Unsupported - $150 per hour

Siemens 3T Prisma - 1 at XA30 & 1 at VE11C
The Siemens 3T Prisma whole-body magnets have a gradient strength of 80 mT/m with a slew rate of 200T/m/s. Both of CTI's two scanners are equipped with a 20-channel head coil and 64-channel head/neck coil. We also have a 32-channel head coil and a range of flex coils for body imaging. This platform permits multi-band simultaneous slice excitation to accelerate image acquisition rates. We also have an MR-compatible TMS coil that can be used with the Tx/Rx head coil. One of the PRISMA scanners has multi-nuclear capabilities that allows the investigation of other species such as phosphorus, sodium, fluorine or carbon.
Cost: $500 per hour
Magventure TMS System
The MagPro X100 is a high-performance magnetic stimulator designed primarily for research. It can provide both biphasic and monophasic pulse waveforms, electronic reversal of current direction, complex pulse firing patterns and high frequency stimulation up to 100 Hz. The device allows for storage of multiple stimulator setups, external control and heat tolerance when performing intense, focused and repeated protocols. It also supports all transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) protocols, research and diagnostic usage. It is paired with a Localite TMS navigation system that can accept MR images for precise localization.
Small Animal Imaging
For booking, please consult the small animal imaging calendar and email director Daniel Procissi, PhD.
Bruker Clinscan 7T MRI
The ClinScan 7T MRI scanner is designed for translational research in the field of preclinical and molecular imaging. High field preclinical MRI is ideal for employing a whole pool of advanced imaging techniques to in-vivo, longitudinal, small animal studies.
Cost: $250 per hour
Mediso NanoScan PET/CT
The Mediso NanoScan PET/CT offers investigators access to both PET and CT for small animal preclinical research (mice and rats).
Cost: $250 per hour
Cancer Imaging
